LED lighting supports high-quality production at Kent-based printer

LED lighting is ideal for facilities undertaking precision manufacturing processes such as print production. LEDs provide bright, clear light that supports better, safer working conditions – while also offering substantial energy and maintenance savings over traditional lighting.

Through our ongoing partnership with Kent-based installer NCS Technology, we have recently produced designs for a total lighting upgrade at Offset Print & Packaging’s facilities in Aylesford.

LED Lighting Project Offset Print & Packaging Before LED Lighting Project Offset Print & Packaging After
Before: The old lighting was expensive to run and the yellow-toned light made it more difficult to see clearly After: The new LED units are providing brighter light levels and creating huge savings in energy and maintenance costs

Creating client-led lighting designs to maximise the benefits of LEDs

To support NCS in selecting the right lighting for Offset, Earlsmann planned a lighting design and used Relux software to confirm the light levels from the replacement LED lighting would meet CIBSE guidelines. Earlsmann also provided reassurance that the LED units would not produce UV light (this could cause ink drying issues).

Working as ‘one team’ with LED installer to provide a seamless customer experience

NCS installed the new LED lighting throughout Offset’s entire premises, including warehouse, glue room, print rooms, die rooms, offices, canteen, WCs and changing rooms. The installation was completed on time and to budget, with minimal disruption to Offset’s operations.

Ultra-reliable LED lighting significantly reduces energy use and ongoing maintenance costs

The new low-energy lighting is providing Offset with a 65% saving in electricity bills, cutting the firm’s carbon footprint by 98 tonnes (usage is reduced by over 180,000kWhr a year). Many of the units feature sensor control so that they automatically turn off when not needed to save energy. The LED luminaires will last much longer than traditional lighting units, meaning that maintenance costs are significantly reduced. A representative for Offset commented that “changing to LED lights has made a massive difference to the quality of lighting in the building and helped us address our carbon footprint”.

LED lighting attracts Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) tax savings

Offset’s investment in the new lighting will be paid back by savings within just three years. The payback period was boosted by the tax savings Offset was able to make through the Government’s ECA scheme for investment in energy-saving equipment. All the lighting installed is ECA-compliant – this applies to many Earlsmann products.
