LED lighting creates fresh new look for Bristol supermarket HQ
LED lighting can be tailored to suit any commercial space, providing bright, clear light that supports a positive environment for employees and customers. LED specialist Earlsmann has recently been working with an Asian supermarket to refresh lighting at its Bristol premises. The new lighting creates airy and safe spaces, while delivering significant savings in running costs of up to 65%.
Earlsmann was invited to review various areas across the client’s business, including an entrance atrium, warehouse, storage area and offices. The existing lighting consisted of ageing SON and fluorescent fittings and was in poor condition. Earlsmann developed bespoke lighting designs for each area to improve customer experience, support better working conditions, maximise energy savings and minimise remedial work.
Making an entrance: LED lighting sets the scene for a positive customer experience
For the entrance foyer, a large atrium with 48 downlights, Earlsmann supplied its LED Sorrento fittings. The units use just 18W each, delivering substantial energy savings while transforming the area into a showpiece foyer that creates a welcoming, positive first impression and an appealing shopping environment.
LED lighting creates a great working environment – from warehouses to offices
The supermarket’s warehouse was lit by 22 SON fittings that were suffering from significant depreciation in light levels due to age. Earlsmann replaced these with its Tonbridge 100W LED fittings, ensuring light levels complied with CIBSE guidelines. The units provide a clear improvement in light levels alongside impressive energy savings, while supporting better, safer working conditions. In the offices, Earlsmann replaced the old 600×600 fluorescent modular fittings with its Milan LED panels and Sorrento LED fittings, achieving further energy savings and providing a bright, pleasant environment for staff.
LED lighting + sensor control = even bigger savings
The business uses two mezzanine areas for storage. The old lighting comprised 23 battens housing six-foot fluorescent lamps. The area was only being used for short periods throughout the day, so Earlsmann provided its Portsmouth non-corrosive LED fittings and included built-in occupancy detection sensors to maximise savings.
LED lighting: eligible for grant support to provide both quick wins and long-term benefits
The client was able to obtain a grant through the Low Carbon Workspaces local enterprise scheme. This funding covered 30% of the cost of the project. The new lighting reduces energy load by around 65%, is virtually maintenance-free and meets all relevant health and safely and lighting guidelines. Through savings in power and maintenance costs, it will pay for itself in approximately two years, while saving around 21 tonnes of CO2 each year – creating ongoing environmental benefits.
